People who live in glass-bottom boats...

A little less active day today. I think we are catching Cabo fever. We got up late, and hung around until about noon. Then  we went downtown and parked in the same mall parking lot. Now that we know how to get to places from there, it's very convenient. We walked out of the mall 

and found the docks where the glass-bottomed boats are docked. We arranged a 45 minute tour of the bay and the Arch area. 

As soon as our boat was full (of people, not water) we cast off and our humorous guide Pedro started telling us about the bay and its features. We passed lots of beach areas, docks with huge yachts on them, other tour boats, and huge resort hotels overlooking the water. 

The rock formations that make up the very tip of Baja California are incredibly steep and made of broken stone, so there is no development on them. They sit there as they have for centuries, while the rest of the bay is ringed with resorts, stores, boardwalks and restaurants.

The glass bottoms of the boats are not of much use, butthere are plenty of fish to be seen right next to the boat in the small coves along the rocks.

Our guide pointed out some beaches and some rock formations, and let us take pictures with them as background. Dozens of other boats were doing the same thing, and yachts and bigger tour boats all vied for the same places and photo ops.

 

Finally it was time to return.Pedro pointed out where the big cruise ships (Carnival chiefly) pull up and anchor. Passengers are ferried in by launch, because the harbor is not deep enough for the ships to tie up directly.

When we got back we were hungry so we sought out the Tiki Bar, a sushi and seafood restaurant that has been featured on Guy Fieri's  Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. (not sure which one the Tiki Bar is). 

We got a mix of sushi, seafood tacos, and sandwiches. All were good- Guy would have been proud.

We made our way back to the condo, and the kids and I headed to the pool. They found some friends and played pool games (not that kind) for a few hours in the shady pool. The resort is fuller today for the first time. I guess Sunday is a busy night in Cabo.

We researched some restaurants that were away from the tourist hubbub and found one called Las Mariscadas that is a local place few tourists know about. Hidden on a backstreet away from the tourist zone, the outdoor seating and hand made signs might scare off some vacationers, but we pushed on and were rewarded with a great meal at a much lower price than the tourist joints charge. It's not hyperbole to say this was the best meal we've had all trip. Very fresh and tasty shrimp, seafood, grilled veggies, rice and pasta.

It was a leisurely meal, so it was time to retire when we got back to the condo. Very full parking lot, and lots of people in many condo units tonight.
